Nepal Bhasa online dictionary launched

World Newah Organization (WNO) organised a virtual program to launch its latest project Nepal Bhasa online dictionary. In the event graced by Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Mr Bidya Sundar Shakya as the chief guest, WNO’s President Mr Season Shrestha delivered the welcome speech.

WNO executive member and Nepal Bhasa Online Dictionary project manager Mr Deepesh Man Shakya, along with the technical lead of the project Mr Prabin Shakya, gave a demo of the online dictionary. He said that the dictionary is a community portal where people can contribute new Nepal Bhasa words which will be added in the live database immediately. Mr Shakya expressed that the project has been built as a one-stop shop for Nepal Bhasa learning materials from various sources, and is expected to inspire others who want to learn and teach Nepal Bhasa with innovative ideas. Following a formal launch by the Mayor, the online dictionary has been made accessible for public use at www.nepalbhasadictionary.com

 

 

In the program conducted by WNO secretary Ms Rasmila Prajapati, WNO founder member and patron Mr Daya Ratna Shakya highlighted on the significance of the online dictionary project. Likewise, President of Newah Dey Daboo Mr Naresh Tamrakar and a number of Newah personalities, representing different Newah organizations across the world, expressed their views.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Shakya said that KMC is ready to cooperate and collaborate with the WNO during his tenure. He said that the activities of the WNO for the promotion and preservation of Nepal Bhasa is praise-worthy.

 

Mr Ujjwal Rajbhandari, an attendee at the event and a Google staff, informed that he is seeking support from WNO to initiate a project to include Nepal Bhasa (Newah Language) in Google Translate. WNO Executive Committee expressed their commitment to do the needful in helping to materialise this important project by following up in regular future meetings with in-house experts and interested contributors.
